What Can I Say

I know I’ve talked before about the times we’ve been given papers full of words. Always the same thing, circle the words your child says spontaneously. It always killed me to hand the paper back and say, “NONE, he can’t say any.”  I know I wasn’t supposed to take a picture of this (copy right infringement, I think) but I couldn’t help myself. And I am sorry for being down about this situation lately because really when I step back and take a look at how things are going there is only one word that comes to mind,

WONDERFUL!

Look at all the wonderful words! And guess what else happened? Luke came home from school and told me, “My name LUKE!”

L’s by nature are hard, well so are F’s, S’s, R’s, and Z’s but we can talk about that later.

This is the first time he has been able to say his own name.  This is so exciting. This means when someone says “What’s your name?” he can confidently respond, “LUKE!” This means when he makes a new friend at school he can say, “Hi, I’m LUKE!”

This is big. This is a huge milestone. This is

WONDERFUL!

YEAH for Luke! This is great news! I think it is important for every child to start working on saying their name as soon as they can! It is so empowering for them–and something we take for granted.

Go Luke!! My Jack is still working on his name and I know I will be just as excited when he gets it right!! Celebrate!

Hi Monica, I should have put J’s on that list too. J’s are HARD. Oh happy day when jack says his name! Can’t wait to hear about it.

In hind sight, Isaiah probably wasn’t the best name for him, speech-wise. *cringes* He has his own answer, though, when you ask him what his name is: a very enthusiastic “ME!”.

Seriously, GO LUKE! That’s absolutely wonderful. And WOW, look at all those words!! (So when doing whatever form that is, do you get to circle all words that he says, even if they are extremely vague and only understandable to you? Just curious… that’s interesting, and a neat way to see his progress!)

Also, thank you Jen, for taking the time to blog your journey to help others. It is so inspirational to see all of his progress, to read your therapy ideas, as well as comforting to hear your real-life worries and concerns. I really am grateful. ((HUGS))

Oh, and I figured out a way I can upload short videos, despite my sloooow dial-up. I’ll have to get some snippets of Isaiah to share. :)
