I won, I won!

Friday, July 10th, 2009

I finally won the great tomato race. Victory is so sweet. When I say I am gloating and boasting, I am! How can something so silly make me so happy? I finally beat my Dad. I never thought I would see the day.  I guess in a way I won by default, not my problem, I still won. The competition got so intense my Dad thought he would add some extra fertilizer and sadly he burned up every single tomato plant. Sorry Dad, they were going so well. They would have crushed me out. But you can’t get over zealous.

I won, I won! Did I tell you I won??

Home Made Crayons

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

Saw this idea from another blog, who saw it from another blog, so I just had to share it again on my blog. My kids have been making crayons all summer. They love this project. Super fun, very cool. Just grab some old broken crayons. Peel off the wrapper. Luke likes peeling the wrappers (great for the fine motor skills).

Put broken crayons in cupcake liners

Melt in the oven for a few minutes

Let cool, remove liners, presto, great little multicolored crayon patties

Love this game. Sorting by color. Sorting by animal type. Which ones are little, which are big?? Mommy and baby. Making animal sounds. Luke’s therapist has used this game for 20 years. You can find similar manipulative’s at Lakeshore learning store.

Signing Time

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Signing Time is a great show on KCET.  It usually airs on Saturday mornings.  I just came across all these great signing songs on You-tube. Of course everything is on You-tube. Grab your little ones and put it on full screen. I bet they enjoy this and will want to look at more Signing Time videos. This is an easy way to learn more signs. Lily and I love it (Luke too).

Things you don’t always think about…..

Learning to cut and paste

like getting ready for preschool. I can’t believe Luke is going to be three in just a couple of months. We have just about made it through one year of speech therapy.  I wonder how many more to come? God give me the strength! It’s easy to get so caught up in the speech development that you forget about all the other important things. You would also think I would remember all this stuff (Luke being my third).Thank goodness Luke has such wonderful therapist that direct me and guide me on what types of things he should be working on. My baby is growing up. Just thought I would share a few ideas.

drawing lines from one side to the other

Can also reinforce up and down, and side to side

Matching,drawing, and finding similarities

A really fun idea for learning to cut, Is just printing some fun animal faces from the internet then let your preschooler cut out the whiskers. Luke loves that.

It’s easy to get so caught up in the speech, but so important to keep them on track with other areas of development.

Encourage the strengths and all the wonderful things they can do.

Happy Fourth of July!

Freedom is certainly not free, it comes with the ultimate price! My prayer is for the men and women all over the world who are serving our great country today. They are the defenders of our freedom. They have sacrificed so I can wake another day to hold my precious children. What an immeasurable gift. Thank You. Thank You!

I am so pleased to say my childrens school not only encourages them to sing “God Bless America,” but also taught them how to sign it. This is Preston, cousin Maddie, cousin Brooklyn, Lily, and notice little Luke try to squeeze in on the action.

Happy Fourth of July America!

Sorry girls it took so long to post this, Love you.
